The song of the cricket has been heralded in literature and folklore throughout time. Itís cheerful tune has long been a symbol of calming, peace, and comfort. Their songs are said to bring blessings to anyone lucky enough to hear them. In some countries, it is a sign of good luck to have a cricket chirping on the hearth, and to kill one is bad luck. In China and Japan crickets have been placed in boxes and kept as musical pets. In many parts of the world a cricket found in the house will be left alone and the longer it stays the more wealth will come to the home owner. Some believe that crickets should be caught and cared for by placing them in specially made cricket boxes and given food and water.
